Travis review:

This a noir story. We have a medical assistant with a reputation of being a ” braggart and drunkard” crashing at an inn in the middle of a snow storm. If this were adapted into a modern story, the location might be a roadhouse with a couple rough bikers waiting out the storm. What I like about the story is how Yergunov is out of his element, but he wants to be liked and respected desperately, but is instead isolated and exposed for the loser that he truly is. This is also a story where a gun comes into play, there is a feme fatale, and violence. I won’t give much more on this review, except to say that the story felt thoroughly modern even though horses were the mode of transportation and a balalaika is used for a dance scene instead of jukebox.
